Hi, I'm Erin

Creating content is a huge time suck for many small business owners. Most of us understand the importance of creating content across platforms to share our message, attract aligned clients, and expand our reach. But as a mom of two toddlers and solo business owner, I understand how challenging it can be to make space in our calendars for content creation that actually moves the needle. Let’s explore how I refined my content creation strategy in 2024 and learned to repurpose content for maximum impact and minimal effort.

My 2023 Strategy

In the past year, I planned my content one month in advance. I wrote out my blogs, social media captions, and emails for the following month. While this worked in many ways, I realized I wasn’t strategic enough in tying my content to actual, measurable objectives. And my topics were all a bit random. My content was created in a spur of the moment way as opposed to promoting things with an intention to connect them to a goal or objective like driving traffic to my blog, adding subscribers to my email list, etc. I sensed an opportunity for improvement.

Discovering the Need for Refinement: A Year-Long Strategy

The shift I discovered involved one dedicated day where I thoughtfully outlined topics for the upcoming year. Each month was designated with a specific theme that was tied to a measurable objective. For example, January is dedicated to blogging, with an objective to provide valuable insights on blog creation and maintenance. This theme not only guides my content creation but aligns my efforts with measurable outcomes, including a free workshop on the topic and a paid mini course.

By planning out my content strategy one year in advance, I also built in intentional breaks in August and December to accommodate some downtime. These “breaks” ensure that I move through the year at a manageable pace and prevent burnout. It’s always important to build in some breathing room as a business owner. Isn’t that one of the reasons we decided to start a business? To build more freedom and control over what our lives look like? 🙂

Work Smarter, Not Harder: Repurpose Content!

This all took ONE day! And it sets me up for ease when it comes to repurposing content. I begin with a month’s worth of blog topics – three-four to be exact. From there I write the blogs and then repurpose them into social media content on Instagram and Facebook. I create a free workshop tied to this topic for each month, along with some sort of paid offer or promotion. Then, I put this all into my email marketing strategy and, voila! I have a content strategy for an entire year with measurable objectives behind them!

As I share this journey, I invite you to reflect on your own content strategy. Does this inspire you to reimagine or refine your approach in 2024? What objectives and themes could be built into your content strategy that can be tied to specific objectives?
